Mounting Height
LED Grow Light Distance: How High Should Fixtures Hang?
The right hanging height depends on fixture output, beam angle, crop stage, dimming level and target PPFD. There is no single distance that works for every grow light.
Quick Answer
Use PPFD and plant response to set distance.
Seedlings usually need a higher fixture or lower dimming level. Mature crops can use stronger light, but the canopy must receive even distribution without hot spots.
Commercial farms should verify mounting height with a PPFD map whenever possible.

| Crop Stage | Distance Strategy |
|---|---|
| Seedling | Higher fixture or lower dimming to prevent stress. |
| Vegetative | Moderate distance with increasing intensity. |
| Flowering or fruiting | Closer or higher output only if PPFD and heat are controlled. |
Signs the light is too close
Leaves may curl upward, bleach, dry at the edges or show stress near the center of the fixture. Raising the light or reducing dimming can correct the problem.
Signs the light is too far
Plants may stretch, grow slowly or lean toward stronger light. Lowering the fixture or increasing output may improve growth.
